Review of THV Hydra, a Free & Open Source Software (FOSS) network logon cracker.
REVIEW SUMMARY
Hydra is a fast and flexible Network Logon Cracker developed by The Hacker's Choice (THC), a non-profit group of international security reseachers and hackers. Hydra is a parallelized logon cracker that primarily employs a brute-force dictionary-based attack. It supports a wide rage of network protocols including, but not limited to: TELNET, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, HTTP-PROXY, SMB, SMBNT, MS-SQL, MYSQL, REXEC, RSH, RLOGIN, CVS, SNMP, SMTP-AUTH, SOCKS5, VNC, POP3, IMAP, NNTP, PCNFS, ICQ, SAP/R3, LDAP2, LDAP3, and various database protocols. The THC designed Hydra to be extensible, so adding new modules is relatively straightforward.
Hydra provides two interfaces: a Command Line Interface (CLI) and a Graphic User Interface (GUI) called Hydra GTK (Graphic Tool Kit). Hydra GTK is a solid GUI that can reduce the learning curve of this powerful cracker. Hydra is highly recommended for both cybersecurity noobs and certified ethical hackers.
